Neither I nor my younger brothers had favorite sports team as children nor even watched much, although our dad was a lifelong fan of NY baseball, football, & hockey teams. But upon moving to NC, we all quickly became immersed in college basketball, including Dad, and were thrilled to watch the NC State Wolfpack win the NCAA tournament under Jim Valvano.
When I attended Duke graduate school, we became Blue Devil fans, through many long bleak years before the program took over off under Coach K, and long years more before their first NCAA title. My brother Jay still favors the Wolfpack, though it's been several tough seasons of late; with the hiring of a new coach, hopefully that will improve next year!
